hi my name is itome and today i'll be showing you aog's current cqc meta "But itome, I want to be a guy with a FLAMING swor-" shut up and crawl back to your den of uselessness, this is for pure tai only 1: BREATHE(also known as uninterruptable buff techs) make sure this is b rank or higher to maximize the effects of your stat boosts, make it last a number of turns so u dont gotta keep paying the cost every turn 2: as boosting multihit: the classic. 3: AIR PRESSURE(your long range option) - fighting a cqc guy and want to make sure he can't actually avoid your attacks because the aoe rules are gorked or need a caster to die? this is your go too choice. make sure its a multihit one. 4: LINKS, LINKS, LINKS - i concentrate to gain +15 AS on my next technique that so happens to be an AS boosting multihit and they link btw and because im concentrating how the fuck are u gonna actually rp feasibly interrupting me 5: escape tech - in case of gank, press flight button 6: parry trap tech with no calcs - if you cant get anti parry stuff on your weapon, stance, or buff, this is your very good. parries hurt. might as well remove the option from the opponent and fuck them over for even trying it ie: "u DARED to parry me? -15 reflex." ooc note: this is a meme. build however you want too and have fun

Seeing some people roleplay Taijutsu out is kind of a delight, all memes aside. Take Yao VS Maximus & co. Some players are really passionate about it. Even/equal Tai fights are usually the best since you don't know what the outcome will be due to its versatility, though I suppose you could say that for every profession. Unlike with Casters, you don't necessarily know what to expect, since Caster professions don't actually shove so many options in your face, and usage of most Elements is very similar from what I've seen ingame, contrary what is intended.
I think minmaxing's kind of taken that out, though to be fair, you didn't see many fights like that last wipe either.
OOC CQC is insanely cool, but that's beside the point.
It's only an idle thought. I don't really have much experience with it since I've never played -pure- CQC beyond my spearman, but from the bit of it that I've gathered, I don't think there should be a specific meta for it since despite AS/rfx popularity, each of the arts seems to work well in its own right, and has different playstyles especially based on your combination. As long as the arts you combine reasonably synergize, 'course. I made the mistake of going Sumo Kung Fu, which kind of worked, except not really because I had a lot of extra unique things to supplement it and it still only barely functioned.
Parry VS Parry with 24/7 evasion is a complete snoozefest most of the time, though. I'd say the addition of Offensive Pressure managed to cut from its repetitive boredom, but it kind of failed, on its own, in my personal opinion.

Personally, I don't think that Parry Calc should reset if you hit someone. It lets you loop into infinite Parry/Riposte, as long as the other person doesn't have any way to stop you from parrying reasonably. Like, if your parry calc is 30 - 40 higher than someone else's, it's really easy for them to just 'lose' in a pure CQC fight. At least, that's been my viewpoint.

It's clunky. You can't necessarily say that since Physical Skill is supposed to represent dominance in purely CQC fights, but it's also a snoozefest when it comes into play, not to mention it's quite unfun to be on the opposing side. Then again, it's so easy to counter that I can't really complain, from a balancing point of view. It's just not that fun of a stat to observe being used compared to others, in my opinion. I remember Johnny VS Hanako, LOL.
