The idea behind alignment in AoG is the categorization of a character's ethical and moral characteristics, demonstrated by both their actions and consistency toward such. Almost every character in AoG is able to receive an alignment, however, the quality of said alignment is graded based on their roleplay leading up to the point.
In AoG, we breakdown alignments into tiers just like perks, to both expand the severity of their alignment as well as reward a person's development and consistency. Most people will find themselves Neutrally aligned at the start of their character's lifespan as they've yet to tip the balance to either side of the moral scale.

Tier 1 Alignment - Morality
To qualify for a T1 alignment, a character must have showcased their character's traits on the moral scale. T1 Alignments do not carry any special characteristics, but instead function as a stepping stone toward a character's development. If a character has been granted a T1 alignment, it is in our hopes that they will use it as a motivation to remain consistent in their character's growth toward the next stage.
"Good" reflects a particular respect for life and others. A good character will often demonstrate characteristics relating to altruism, and an overall positivity to the world around them. Generally, a good aligned character is one who will often act for the benefit of others. Being Good aligned is more then a mentality, and seeks some form of actions to show that an individual really is looking to aid.
"Evil" imposes otherwise a lack of. An individual who is evil is molded by their willingness to harm and oppress others in their movements throughout life. Whether it be the rich man who concerns his money over the livelihoods of others, or a man taking life to satisfy his own indulgence. An evil aligned character can be reflected a number of ways, that usually results in them acting against others in a way that brings active harm, more then it benefits.
A "Neutral" character is one that is not particularly aligned to good or evil; they act upon what they think is a good idea at the time and have no particular feelings on the subject of good & evil and law & chaos. Neutral characters at this stage tend to exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a strong commitment to neutrality.
Tier 2 Alignment - Ethical
Breaking down the Ethical alignment of a character. One should showcase and demonstrate more clearly their character's position in the world. Good and Evil are whimsical ideas, when the ethics of a character demonstrates how they answer to the world. AoGverse is a well developed, with many civilizations, meaning that a properly developed character should be able to show how exactly they answer to the world they live in.
The scale of ethics are not strict, as society in different parts of the world can have different meanings in law and chaos. However, in the end, to show compatibility with a T2 alignment, above all else one must show consistency in their character. T2 Alignments are individualized to each character, and will explain briefly a character's general outlook in terms of alignment.
"Lawful" characters will embody something of honor, trust and/or obedience. When dealing with a lawful character, understanding who or what exactly they follow will almost always help one understand how they may answer or respond to a situation. Oftentimes, this will show a character to be more close-minded then others, especially as they adhere to some form of tradition or law.
"Chaotic" alignment will often follow impulses. A chaotic individual implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility and will follow their own whims to showcase themselves. It is as a result, that reading into a chaotic character generally means understanding the individual themselves so well, that one can perceive the motion of an individual beyond religion, society, and law. While leaning toward the chaotic end of the spectrum does not demand an individual oppose law, the extreme shows that an individual will ultimately act on what they feel is right, beyond any word of another.
The "True Neutral" alignment reflects a character who may disregard any of these commitments. They understand and accept the balance between other alignments. Good, Evil, Chaos, and Law, they're all natural forces to the world and individual personalities. Their clashing is not unordinary at all.
Tier 3 Alignment - Fully Developed
The revolutionary tier of Alignments. These alignments go beyond defining their character, as 'effects' become more immediately tangible. Tier 3 Alignments are created from a character stressing their alignment, to begin shaping the world around them. This means a character must be extremely consistent, and they must have openly showcased their alignment within actions. Actions speak, and they're what is needed to grade an individual.
At Tier 3, a character is liable to obtain Heroic, to reflect fearlessness and heroics in the face of adversity, and Villainous, to represent killing intent and their destructive ambition or objective that leads them forward. Tier 3 does not only encompass these two extremes, but can also be allocated to characters with extremely well-defined and influential personality types, as like the prior tier, each one is personalized to the individual.
Characters who achieve Tier 3 will be few and far between. However, as the wipe progresses further, we will always be looking for outstanding characters to make the leap to this tier and beyond. We look at, and praise characters for consistency in their roleplay, from social settings to high-stress situations, as achieving this tier will bolster the influence of any character when exposed.
Acquirement
Although players can be granted an alignment spontaneously, the best way is to apply for an alignment review.

on discord for alignment review.
Summarizing events and roleplay to what may lead to obtaining any alignment is not necessary, but it will help greatly in the decision and writing process. A good time to ask for an alignment review is after your character goes through an event that you feel exemplifies their stance on the moral scale. How you act on the day to day between pivotal moments and the -consistency- between them is what we will look for when reviewing your character.
