Culture of the Sands
Welcome to the Sands.
The culture of Manila Oukoku has changed many times over. In this section, we will exclusively speak of a Manila owned by the Sandrunes, in the form of old Msir. This may come in handy depending on the setting, but Manila was not always a crime-ridden, Sin-infested citadel.
It was once home to Msir, led by the old Gods of the Sandrunes until the Christening Purge that eliminated half of the Gods from the Pantheon.
The Sands believe in that the next Pharaoh is the one selected by the Gods themselves.
Their current Pharaoh is aided and given prophetic visions of the following Pharaoh who will lead their people after them.
From there, Pharaoh to Pharaoh is rule passed down, for the good of the people, and for those who can utilize their magic greatest.
The ancient magics of the Sands were as followed:
Mawt - Command of the Dead
Silsitat - Command of Glyphic Lightning, bestowed by Shu & Nut.
Ulberq - Command of Glyphic Heat, bestowed by Amun-Ra.
Alard - Command of Glyphic Earth, bestowed by Geb.
Ma'ha - Command of Glyphic Rivers, originally bestowed by Khnum (who fell to Michael, thus removing Ma'ha).
Those who could wield them were known as 'Maguses', and they held the greatest authority in Msir. This culture would greatly influence magic in Arcadia, as homosapiens derived much of their magic from seeing magic performed in Msir. Now, most of these arts have been lost, and without a connection to the Gods, they will never be used again.
The Sandrunes are greatly hostile to all those not of their culture. They hold other religions in disdain. Slavery is practiced in their culture, especially that of foreigners. The Sandrunes do not discriminate by skin color, but by religion and whether one is capable of wielding magic or not. Thus, martial bases such as Shokoku's or Bushido-spouting samurai such as Teikoku's, or Arcadia's knights and Vetur's barbarians do not interest the Sandrunes.
Dancing
Dancing is extremely important in the ancient culture of Msir. Dance conveys a message with the body alone and is seen as a way for slaves to make merry and for the body to express its joy. It shows one's health, one's command over their body, and their dexterity.
Pharaohs
The Pharaoh stands above all else in Msirian society, especially when the Sandrunes' religion is being wholeheartedly practiced in a region. Characters are expected to exercise deference to the Pharaoh and also to be highly protective of them. The Pharaoh is expected to be the strongest in magic, but they are not expected to be the most physically oppressive. Pharaohs can be women or men. The society of Msir is not sexist, nor is it racist. It is overzealous by all rights.
The Location of Old Msir
Old Msir stands where Manila Oukoku is. Manila, no matter how many times it may be renamed, remains the dusty eastern half of Kyaal. It is a sandy desert next to a grand shore, where all of the world's seafood floods in. Msir has a treacherous western desert fraught with scorpions of all sorts, making it difficult for any journeys to be made between Chugoku Tenku & Msir. It occupies the whole eastern domain of Kyaal and was once a location for exiles of Chugoku Tenku to migrate to: to become servants of the Pharaohs & their nobles.
The Grudge
The Sandrunes hold a grudge against the Seraphic to this very day for the slewing of 50% of their brethren. Most of the original deities of the Sandrunes have been erased from existence by the Archangels due to a doomsday many centuries ago. Now, all of the Sandrunes host some kind of disdain of those who hold faith in "God". If the religion of an individual is exposed to a faithful of the Sandrunes to be that of Christianity, then killing them could reap a very tangible benefit from the Sandrunes, who foster a hatred against them for the punishment they received in the past.
Djinn
The Sandrunes do not have a traditional Seraphim - Zexal. Instead, the Sandrunes seal away the ancient powers of their Gods within weapons, and these manifest as "boons" that can unveil a Zexal from the tool in question. These Djinn Artifacts allow an individual to wield an incredible power at no cost, as long as they are homosarien. These tools cannot be awakened by a homosapien, posing as the singular downside to using the Djinn items, though some Lycanus are able to utilize these, such as those under Sobek.
