Culture of the Dragons
The Dragons believe in the pursuit of enlightenment, through dedicated work in one's career, through the accumulation of knowledge & wisdom, and through the mastery of one's body and spiritualism in combat. They are the fiercest when it comes to the martial arts. From this land originates the arts of Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, Shaolin Artes, Sumo, Baguazhang, and Wing Chun. Arcadian, Manilan, and Veturian martial arts are all inspired by the ancient roots of this country's hand-to-hand mastery.
This land has often times shifted between times of meritocracy and hereditary aristocracy, similarly to the Rising. This is because in the military sect, only one's actual talent is measured, though by the divine right to rule, those who are most related to the Emperor have always held office first and foremost, before a complete stranger. This is because they hold a divine right to hold the seat.
Women and men are treated relatively equally in Shochuan & Jiangdong. The disparity between their societal positions is most visible in Jingzhou, in which men will often demean the women of Chugoku and devalue their worth, due to either belief that their ideas are flawed or in order to secure themselves their position of confidence. Pride in oneself is just as heavy as it is in lands dominated by the Rising, just as honor is. Women can gain just as much respect; it is not as though they are barred from the practice of martial arts or the use of weapons. However, because of a biological disparity in physical strength, they are often seen capable of only maximizing themselves in arts like Baguazhang or Wing Chun, arts that are generally for shorter, smaller, and lesser-bodied individuals. There have been many exceptions in the past but a primarily male-dominated Pantheon has also led to clear biases.
In Chugoku Tenku, normally men of a high status can have concubines. There is no limit to the number of concubines one may have and they are considered rewards for having accomplished as much as one has. Women are unable to have male concubines in traditional Chugokan culture.
Groups in Chugoku Tenku
Itsuki
The most prevalent users of Baguazhang, Wing Chun, and Karate, the Itsuki Clan is possessed by individuals with the Eight Extraordinary Meridian upon the spiritual axis. The Eight Extraordinary Meridian are only possessed by the Itsuki. All other bodies are comprised of twelve meridian points, inclusive of sarien, sapien, and Lycanus species. Their progenitor was taught by the Yellow Emperor & the Jade Emperor, to channel their qigong and yin-yang. They are considered to be the greatest martial artists, when it comes to the [Gentle Fist] theory. Arts like Baguazhang and Wing Chun are doubly as effective under their hand, as if centuries of epigenetic study by their ancestors descend to them. Indeed, the Itsuki possess a rich two-thousand years of history fighting in this style. Only the Itsuki can [Awaken] a Gentle Fist-based style and ascend it.
Hyojun
Originally peasants in the Liu Dynasty, the Hyojun were known to be a shinobi-people. They were the first to use ninja-stars (shuriken) in their combat style. By forging a pact with the Yanhui after stealing the Shinigami from Lucifer, the Hyojun were able to seal away their souls in the vessel of the hungry, gluttonous Shinigami, in exchange for tremendous powers linked to the Dark Star meteors. One can consider them the "third" of the Three Great Swordpowers as a result, but only with a special weapon. Otherwise, the Hyojun were responsible for sneaky assassinations and covert operations across Chugoku Tenku in ancient times, and were regarded as rats by the Yatogari due to their 'underhanded' ways. Hyojun were one of the only people to discard of 'honor' for the sake of actual results. Hyojun have significantly slanted eyes and are said to have a close relationship with the God: Sun Wukong. Their patron god is Huangxian, the Weasel God. Hyojun are capable of [Awakening] themselves through the Glory of Ten Powers and mastering all Ten Powers.
Yanhui
"Everything turns in circles and spirals with the cosmic heart until infinity. Everything has a vibration that spirals inward or outward — and everything turns together in the same direction at the same time. This vibration keeps going: it becomes born and expands or closes and destructs — only to repeat the cycle again in opposite current. Like a lotus, it opens or closes, dies and is born again. Such is also the story of the sun and moon, of me and you. Nothing truly dies. All energy simply transforms."
The Yanhui, developers of the Spiral Seal, are the progenitors of Eastern Sealing Arts. It is said historically, they were influenced by the Runecraft of the West, and Runes would later manifest through the calligraphy taught in Chugoku Tenku. The Yanhui first developed the ancient Lotus Seals, which were eventually complicated into the Spiral Seal, which boasts even greater effectiveness and sends those sealed into the Spiral World, where one cycles infinitely. Some say that the Spiral World is a synonym to the Purgatory of the West, but those who have been sent to the Spiral World never return to tell the tale. Their affinity for Subspace make the Yanhui incredible at managing space and inventory. In the past, they have had pacts with the Hyojun, the Yatogari, and the Itsuki. Zhong Kui & Shennong patron the Yanhui, with the Yanhui having a spiritual ancestor in the form of Sima Zhongda - Sima Yi. Details on Yanhui [Awakening] are completely unknown.
Kishikami
A relatively new group of people, the Kishikami originate from the land of Chugoku Tenku, with great affinity for natural energy (edda). Primarily from the Land of Jiangdong, they forged close pacts & bonds with the Lycanus people and mastered the use of edda in their own individual way, while bestowing manipulation of edda on their spiritual arts, through the channels of Yin & Yang. The Kishikami are thus, the closest relatives to the Quraishi, and are considered the 'Quraishi' of Chugoku Tenku. Jing Wei patrons the Kishikami, for Jing Wei was saved by an ancient Kishikami, who treated her injuries upon drowning in the sea. This bird would later bless the Kishikami with an affinity for flight, aiding them in the development of a technique they would call 'Tengoku', after the Heavens themselves. Jing Wei often looks fondly on those of the Kishikami Clan, seeing them as little sons. Kishikamis are capable of [Awakening] either [Tengoku] or [Jigoku] to become the greatest asset to the Heavens or its greatest enemy.
Senzo
The Senzo are an ancient clan that carry World Trees upon their backs, by insertion of the Seed of Yggdrasil. The Seed of Yggdrasil is most compatible with the bodies of the Senzo and will sustain itself using their blood as water, their body as soil, and their energy as sunlight. Those who have Seeds of Yggdrasils grafted into their backs have frail constitutions and are often physically incapacitated in some way, either being fraught with constant sickness or having a fragile body structure. However, without the Senzo, man could not sustain themselves for they would wholly lack edda. Without edda, life itself cannot be sustained. The lush green of the world is all because of edda. Some view the Senzo as an expendable commodity, as general ways to empower themselves by absorbing their edda-absorbing World Trees. With each passing generation, the World Trees of the world subsequently become weaker and weaker, providing edda that is less and less dense. By the end of Wipe 6, the World Trees have become so frequently targeted that the subsequent World Trees provide far less than their predecessors were able to. Only Senzo are capable of [Awakening] the World Tree in their back should they reach a high enough level.
Traditions of the Dragons
Honor [荣誉]
Honor is so imperative to the culture of the Dragons that those who do not abide by Honor are seen as less than the face of the earth. They are disregarded in almost every regard and are relegated to positions of peasantry. Challenges to one's honor and to one's family lineage are always calls for dueling, even if it means one's death if they were to fail to protect their honor. One's honor can be besmirched should their wife lay in bed with another man, or if their family member is killed by another and is not properly laid to rest. Honor is everything to the dragons, just as it is to those of the Sakura.
[More to Come]
The Blessed Location
The culture of the dragons are founded upon its formidable land, which lacks easy travel routes and is difficult to be invaded. Much of its terrain geographically rises and falls. The Land of Chugoku Tenku is divided into three regions:
Jingzhou, Shochuan, and Jiangdong.
It is located on the west of the great continent: Kyaal, which is the largest land in all of Grandeur. Arcadia, Dominia, and Mineralia combined do not make up even a half of the land owned by Kyaal. It is said that Kyaal houses nearly 60% of the world's population by itself. It is a continent that possesses six World Trees in order to sustain itself and is twice the size of the Great Continent of Onhoku, which houses the great Kingdom of Teikoku & its successors.
The Land itself is blessed to have a deep connection to the Heavens. Originally able to channel both Rising & Dragonblessed due to their joined union, their separation has led to both great continents to be held by Rising & Dragonblessed. Due to the homogeneous nature of Kyaal, it does not boast the unique natural resources that Onhoku possesses, such as cloudsteel & seastone, but has its own resources in the form of jade and meteorites that are forged into weapons to channel the powers of the Heavens. This has led to the creation of unique weapons such as the Glory of Ten Powers and mind-clearing presences on the body to be worn as tradition by monks.
These three divisions of the country have their own diverse cultural foods and dialects.
Jingzhou
The tall mountainous region of northern Chugoku Tenku, Jingzhou is the hub of industry and manufacturing. Jingzhou itself cannot stand on its feet as an agricultural unit and to support its population, requires Shochuan's assistance. Jingzhou is the location in which meteorites fall most frequently. Most of the individuals in Jing are weaponists, due to the overproduction of steel in this region. The Glory of Ten Powers originates from this region.
Shochuan
The agricultural southwest hub of Chugoku Tenku, Shochuan's agriculture is enough to support all of Chugoku Tenku by its own. Primarily made up of rice paddies, wheat fields, and farmlands, Shochuan has a lack of presence in the smithing industry. Most of its wares are made with leather or is used to camouflage in the dense forestation that blocks them off from the Jiangdong. It is on low-lands, close to the rivers, and is also called the "Riverlands". Water-based martial arts were developed in the Riverlands, especially arts like Baguazhang & Wing Chun.
Jiangdong
Housing two of the World Trees of Kyaal, the Jiangdong is land of the Lycanus. The Lycanus people of Chugoku Tenku mostly reside in the Jiangdong, a fiery group of residents who pride themselves on their strength militarily and their easily defendable land, surrounded on all sides by river from Jingzhou & Shochuan. To the east lies the ancient land of Manila, that the people of Jiangdong often have black market dealings with. Otherwise, the Jiangdong is known as a land of fierce martial arts, known to be the 'Land of the Sun', where it is most hot. For an individual to truly master heat-based martial arts, a visit to the Jiangdong is a must, for the roots of martial arts of a fiery-nature originate from this region. Arts like Karate & Taekwondo were developed here.
Access to the Heavens
The Martial Kings, the Shiten'no, and the greatest of the great in mastering oneself and cultivating one's assets can access the Wulin World. Whether you know it is as the Murim, the Bugo, or the Wulin, this is the divine privilege that the greatest martial arts have by pact of the Buddha themselves, having recognized combative enlightenment as a form of proper enlightenment. The Yellow Emperor, the Jade Emperor, Izanagi, and Izanami recognize those who have achieved this level of strength, and under their contract with one another, enable any who have proved themselves through merit in combat and have actualized their legend & fame in the world to all significant to be invited to their personal domain.
